Day 8: One Week
How are you doing?
Lent is one week old, and similar to January 8th when we assess our New Year’s Resolutions, this is an appropriate time to pause.
Different from the turn of the calendar, Lent is an invitation to a deeper relationship with Jesus. You may have chosen to sacrifice something unhealthy or unproductive as you do on January 1st, or add a new habit like an increase in exercise, prayer, meditation.
No matter what you decided to do intentionally this Lent, pause, right now, and assess.
Look back at the last week, and ask yourself:
· Where did I see God? Was it in my child, my partner, my co-worker, my fellow parishioner or neighbor? Or was it in creation or in the silence?
· When did I serve and give love?
· When did I receive love and feel God’s presence?
If this week was no different than any other week, find hope and solace in that there is plenty of time left to make this a transformative journey.
As Richard Rohr reminds us: “Transformation is not merely a change of morals, group affiliation, or belief system—but a change at the very heart of the way you receive, hear, and pass on each moment.”
