Day 34: Worry

The other day, the sound of one bird woke me from my slumber.

I found myself lost in her song, wondering what her tune symbolized.

Was it a call of welcome and love, or of warning? Was she simply singing a melody or a message of gratitude to above.

She sang the same tune in the exact same way for a few minutes before other sounds filled the air.

In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus instructs his followers not to worry, emphasizing that God knows their needs and cares for them, just as he cares for the birds and flowers.

I worry a lot. Despite my best attempts, I can worry about getting the dishes cleaned, laundry done, kids to and from school, clearing my inbox, finding time to workout, and fearing about the events of our city, country, and world- all within a few minutes.

Researchers tell us that in any given minute, the average person may have between 48 and 60 thoughts. How many of your thoughts are that of worry?

Jesus tells us to sing our song like the birds, to stand up tall like the flowers, trusting in God who created them, and created us.

Can we worry less this final weeks of Lent, and instead sing the song we were made to sing. Wouldn’t this be a better use of our time, energy, and gift that is this day, in this one precious life.
