Day 21: Be Not Afraid

Today, the Church celebrates the Annunciation, when the Angel, Gabriel, comes to Mary and tells her that she will be bringing God into the world.

My favorite part of this story, as is the case when Gabriel visits Joseph, is he says to them both, “Be not afraid.”

This humanizes these two heroes of our faith, and reminds us to not be afraid either.

God calls us in various ways to bring this divine love into the world, although we may feel many emotions that keep us from taking the next step.

May we be reminded of these same words that Mary and Joseph heard so many years ago- “be not afraid.”
