Appreciative Discipleship

UNIVERSITY PRESS-2

Appreciative Discipleship ™ provides an innovative and effective leadership model for the pastoral practice of post-Confirmation ministry, focusing on youth and young adults.

The six-stage model known as Appreciative Discipleship guides parish leaders in inviting and engaging today’s youth as young disciples, encouraging active participation and leadership in the faith community.

Building upon  the organizational models of Appreciative Inquiry and Appreciative Advising, and best practices in parish, youth, and campus ministry, this invaluable and comprehensive resource offers a vision and practical resource for immediate implementation in dioceses, parishes and schools.

At the heart of this model is a process to reconnect with God, rediscover your true self, and to recommit to service.

Here is an example of reflective questions for the Discover step:

  • Reflect on your earliest memory of a faith experience:
    • What was it like?
    • What did you feel then?
    • What do you feel now as you look back?
  • Was there a time when someone in your faith community invited you to use your gifts and talents.
    • What was it like?
    • What did you feel then?
    • What do you feel now as you look back?

This retrospective look back provides meaningful insights that prepare us to dream.
