Were you ever on the right road but never realized it?
Earlier today, my wife, daughter and I went for a hike at a park we have walked numerous times. We ended up getting lost, and had to take a closed road back to our car. For those 20 minutes, I thought it was a different road, a path untraveled.
As the walk came to an end, it hit me. We walked this road before, and as recent as last week. Yet I did not recognize it. We entered this path from the forrest, and our perspective changed.
I turned to my wife as we recognized where we were and I said, “isn’t this a metaphor of life?”
Sometimes we are on the right path, but do not realize it. All we need is a change in perspective.
Often quoted on this blog, Dr. Wayne Dyer once said, “Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at change.”
That new road today was the right road, but it wasn’t new at all. It felt different, reminding me of other paths like those in Manhattan or Europe. In reality, it was the same path I took through a small corner in Queens.
Is there something in your life that needs to change?
As we search for purpose and direction, instead of looking for the path untraveled, let’s instead look at the road we know. This time, change the way you look at it, and maybe, you will gain the clarity you were searching for all along.
