In anticipation of Father’s Day this Sunday, I am sharing a series of reflections on my new journey of fatherhood. This reflection was written in last June, before Father’s Day 2016.
Johnson’s new commercial on fatherhood is a hype video for new and preparing dads. You can watch it here.
I came upon it while watching a video clip of a student who was on television. I anticipated another annoying 30 seconds of obligatory promotion.
Then this struck me. I was moved by its simplicity and the closing words: “it will be the greatest journey of your life.”
I was preparing to go to the Mets game for an afternoon with friends and their toddlers. With this video in mind, I had the following thoughts coming home victorious (Mets won 4-2).
- I cannot wait to bring my daughter to a game.
- How amazing will it be seeing her with the toddlers of my friends?
- While going to games have been a major part of my life, they are no longer as necessary as they once were. My daughter (28 weeks today) will give me enough to keep my eyes on. (And we can always watch from home, but we all know we will find our way to a few games each year)
- This is truly going to be the greatest journey of my life. I am so thankful that my wife and I can share this together.
82 days to go!
